JUVEDERM

WHAT IS JUVEDERM?

Juvederm is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. It provides a smooth, natural look and feel so that everyone will notice, (but no one will know!) Juvederm is made of non-animal hyaluronic acid and therefore there is low risk of allergic reactions. Juverderm employs new technology to provide one of the highest concentrations of cross-linked hyaluronic acid of any currently available. Additionally, it is the only hyaluronic acid filler FDA approved to last up to a year and is the first hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has been proven to be safe and effective for persons of colour.

WHERE CAN JUVEDERM BE USED?

Juvederm is most appropriately used on lines that are described as static, that is, those lines that you can see when your face is still. Juvederm is indicated for injection into the mid to deep dermis for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. It is best used to:

  • smooth lines around the your mouth and nose
  • enhance the size of your lips
  • reduce crow's feet
  • reduce laugh lines
  • fill out your cheeks

THE JUVEDERM TREATMENT

The Juvederm injection process takes only about 15 minutes. Although anaesthesia is not required, your medical professional may use ice packs to make the procedure more comfortable. If necessary, topical anaesthetic creams may be used and even injectable nerve block anaesthesia is available to numb the treatment area first. Your medical professional will carefully inject Juvederm under your skin with an ultrafine needle to smooth away fine line lines, wrinkles and folds. The lips may be injected in the same way to gently "plump" them up for soft, subtle results that restore a more youthful you.

AFTER THE PROCEDURE

Just as with other hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, there is minimal recovery or downtime. For the first 24 hours, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in order to help minimize the risks of temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the treatment sites. After the treatment, some temporary injection-related reactions may occur including redness, pain, firmness, swelling and bumps or lumps. Studies have shown that these are usually mild to moderate in nataure and clear up on their own in 7 days or less. If you notice swelling at the injection site, an ice pack may be applied for a brief period.
